In 2011 (Freshman): Jake made 11 appearances on
the mound during his freshman season, including four
starts…threw a career-high six innings against East
Tennessee State, as he struck out five batters, while giving up
four hits…recorded 22 strike outs.
Goodpasture Christian: A versatile player out of
Goodlettsville, Tenn., McWhirter filled roles as a pitcher, first
baseman and outfielder for high school coach Richie Estep...over
the course of his high school career, he was named 1st team
All-District, Disctrict MVP, 2nd team Mid-State, 2nd team All-State
and 1st team All-State according to TBCA...recorded 109 strikeouts
with a 1.69 ERA during his senior season, notching of 225 K’s
in his high school career...high school team held the district
championship title from 2007-2010, claimed the regional
championship in 2007, 2008 and 2009, and the state championship in
2007 and 2008.
